My favorite game was between the Dallas Stars and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 2003 Stanley Cup Playoffs that went into five overtimes before the Mighty Ducks won it. Great game.

Is complaining the only thing Anaheim fans can do?

Ric asked:

Geez, your team is one game away from the Cup, and all you can do is complain about the refs, or Neil, or Alfy, or the NHL front office for trying to “rig” the games for Ottawa. YOUR TEAM IS ABOUT TO BE THE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS. Think about that. It’s OK to support your team, but take winning with some grace, please. Root for your team, don’t vilify others. Enjoy your celebrations, the Ducks (for the most part) have won with a sense of class. I hope the fans can learn from that someday. That being said, congrats to the Ducks and to the Sens for both having great years.

I’m neutral to the Finals (Wings fan here), and I’m just sick of seeing people that try to bring up conspiracies and whine.
I’m not trying to solve the problem, I’m just saying people need to think a bit more positively about this situation. If my team was winning the Stanley Cup Finals, I would have nothing to complain about.

JESS

who do you think will win out of Anaheim and Detroit in the western conference finals?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
Duxfanforlife92 asked:

i think the ducks will win bcuz they r gettin marchant back probably a top 10 penalty killer that anahiem has and they have been hot as of late and giguere will not give up more then 2 goals this series and in game 1 or game 3 hasek will be chased from the net after allowing 4 goals and i think they will be able to win the cup vs either team in the eastern conference and i really doubt that they can survive vs both western conference teams bcuz they r just way to good and come on who wouldn’t love to have the west win the cup again i would love it if anahiem would but bottom line is the winner of this series wins the cup

My point: Last year, they finished 17th.
The year before that? 20th

How long will this last until the bangwagoners jump ship and their attendance returns to normal?

The Vancouver Canucks Start 2008-2009 Season With a Blast

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
ShowTimeTickets.com asked:

The NHL Regular season came to a disappointing conclusion last year for the Vancouver Canucks, as they failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second of three consecutive years in a row. Though it was a close race in the competitive Western Conference for a while, it was ultimately the Canucks’ injury-ridden roster, which caused them a playoff slot. Key players Mattius Ohlund, Sami Salo, Kevin Bieksa and Brendan Morrison, all suffered injuries throughout parts of the 2007/2008 season, giving the team little hope for playoff success.

The off-season which followed, was not much better for the defeated Canucks, as several extremely important roster changes began to make headlines. Firstly, after two out of three unsuccessful post-season performances, Dave Nonis was fired as the team’s General Manager in April. Nonis was replaced with Mike Gillis, a former NHL hockey star himself in the 70’s and 80’s.

Just a month and a half later, when things were just beginning to look up again, the team lost their most promising young defenseman, Luc Bourdon, to a tragic motorcycle accident. A few days after Bourdon’s death, the team’s long-time Captain and long-time moral leader, Trevor Linden, officially retired from hockey, leaving many fans in tears. Following Linden’s departure, Markus Naslund, the Canucks’ all-time leading goal scorer, announced his own plans to leave Vancouver, as he pursued a contract with the New York Rangers. Brendan Morrison followed Naslund a few days later, announcing plans to play for the Anaheim Ducks in 2008/2009.

Despite their numerous losses, both on and off the ice, the Vancouver Canucks have made several attempts to bounce back and look forward. Steve Bernier and Pavol Demitra, are among the many new faces who will grace General Motors Place this year, in Canucks uniforms. Meanwhile, Roberto Luongo, who has grown into arguably the league’s best goalie, was named team captain. The event made news across North America, as it marked the first time since 1947, that a goaltender was named captain of their team in the National Hockey League.

The Canucks kick off the new seasons with a fresh, young lineup in place and deep pockets ready for the trade and free agent deadline. In addition, the team has some of the world’s most dedicated and excited fans behind them, cheering them every step of the way.

The team is off to an amazing start in the early stages of this 2008/2009 preseason and regular season thus far. They hope to continue their winning streak throughout the rest of the year and into 2009, as they put their past challenges behind them and try to regroup and refocus on the ones ahead, in the near future.

Vancouver Canucks Tickets

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Macie asked:

Professional men’s ice hockey team namely, the Vancouver Canucks - based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, are members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1970, they joined the NHL as an expansion team. The Canucks play their home games in GM Place. The Canucks have made it twice to the Stanley Cup Finals, but faced un unfortunate defeat from each of the two New York teams: the Islanders in 1982, and the Rangers in 1994.

In 1945 the Pacific Coast Hockey League instituted an ice hockey franchise in the city of Vancouver. Recognized as the Canucks, they immediately earned success by winning PCHL championships in their first (1946) and third (1948) years of existence. In 1952, the PCHL combined with the Western Canada Senior Hockey League to give rise to the professional Western Hockey League. With abundant star players coming through the ranks like Johnny Bower, Andy Bathgate, Tony Esposito, Allan Stanley, and Phil Maloney, the Canucks would again win the President’s/Lester Patrick Cup in 1958, 1960, 1969, and 1970. The team played at the Vancouver Forum.

After more than a decade of discreet performance, finally the Canucks made an effective appearance in the post-season of 1982. After finishing three games under .500 over the course of the regular season, Vancouver blew through the Campbell Conference playoffs, going 11-2 in games against the Flames, Kings, and Blackhawks. It is noteworthy that regardless of having a losing record, Vancouver had home ice advantage in each of those three series, due to the astonishing number of upsets which occurred during that season’s playoffs.

After their implausible Stanley Cup run, the Canucks slipped back into mediocrity for the rest of the 80s. Their distinguished players in the 1980s included collaborative forward Stan Smyl, who pensioned off from the franchise leader in most scoring categories; Swedish imports Thomas Gradin and Patrik Sundstrom; penalty minute king Tiger Williams, who led the NHL in penalty minutes during two of his Canuck seasons; hardrock defenceman Harold Snepsts, one of the most famous players in franchise history; and high-scoring right winger Tony Tanti.

After the 1994 playoff run, Vancouver continued to be in power for the next two seasons, acquiring Alexander Mogilny and Markus Naslund were traded from the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins, to further perk up their offence, correspondingly.

In the 1997 off-season, the Canucks made a big splash and signed Mark Messier from the Rangers to a worthwhile three-year deal. When being in Vancouver, Messier often remained injured and the Canucks went through a fire sale in his second year. The third nevertheless saw a renaissance in the team which paved the foundations for the team’s victory in the coming years, the team was once again expected to finish close to dead last in the league but the Canucks shocked all by fighting for the playoffs the whole year.

During the 2005-06 season, some hockey analysts considered the Canucks as Stanley Cup favorites. Nevertheless, the team failed to come up to par with the fans expectations and hopes and completed the regular season in an unsatisfactory 9th place in their Conference hardly missing a playoff position to the Edmonton Oilers, which caused some major discussion about the effect of the point awarded for overtime or shootout loss, newly put forward by the NHL. The season was illustrated as an under-achieving performance, most conspicuously in the first line of Naslund, Bertuzzi, and Brendan Morrison, which was projected to generate higher point totals under the new league rules. Morrison had a career-high 84 penalty minutes. Meanwhile, his wingers, Bertuzzi and Naslund, had a combined -37 in Plus/Minus Rating. Vancouver’s highest-scoring line was that of Carter and Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

On April 7, 2007, the Canucks won the Northwest Division title for the 2nd time in three seasons with an overtime win over the San Jose Sharks, the win also gave goalie Roberto Luongo his 47th win, tying him for the preceding single-season win record with Bernie Parent, having been lately obscured by New Jersey Devils netminder Martin Brodeur.

During the 2007 playoffs which took place on April 11, 2007, the Canucks made a franchise record with a quadruple OT win in the opening game of round one of the playoffs against the Dallas Stars. The game was the greatest in Canucks history and the sixth longest in league history. In addition to this, the Canucks set a record in this game for shots against, allowing 76. The Canucks won this seven-game series notwithstanding a lack of goal-scoring; Stars goalie Marty Turco recorded three shutouts in the series. They were defeated in the second round in five games to the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions, Anaheim Ducks.
